Hatcher Road Improvement Committee

Hatcher Road is a major collector street that traverses the entire length of Sunnyslope.  The community has a central commercial hub and several smaller adjacent commercial areas. Hatcher Road is one of the secondary commercial areas. Through the business coalition, the community embraced the proposition that Hatcher Road was an underutilized commercial asset and created the Hatcher Road Improvement Committee to develop a revitalization plan and implementation strategy that had the ability to maintain both private and public support, both programmatic and financial.

The committee’s goal is to reposition Hatcher Road as a pedestrian friendly retail and commercial destination street. Read the revitalization plan.

Hatcher Road Overlay Adopted June 4, 2008

On June 4, 2008, City Council voted to amend Chapter 6 of the Zoning Ordinance to create the Hatcher Road Overlay District (HROD). The Overlay District provides for modified use and development standards for properties generally fronting Hatcher Road between 7th Street and 7th Avenue to allow for an improved visual appearance of Hatcher Road that will create a pedestrian friendly commercial destination.
