Business Coalition

The Sunnyslope Business Coalition was founded in 2005 to help the business community organize, foster collaboration and derive feedback from business leaders. Quarterly meetings provide an opportunity for networking and introduce resources for Sunnyslope business owners. Through the work of subcommittees, this coalition has made great progress in developing a plan for Hatcher Road improvements, a corridor lined with diverse businesses ranging from Mexican bakeries to sheet metal shops.  Other priorities include safety & security and the image and marketing of Sunnyslope.

Hatcher Road Improvement Committee

Hatcher Road is a major collector street that traverses the entire length of Sunnyslope.  The community has a central commercial hub and several smaller adjacent commercial areas. Hatcher Road is one of the secondary commercial areas. Through the business coalition, the community embraced the proposition that Hatcher Road was an underutilized commercial asset and created the Hatcher Road Improvement Committee to develop a revitalization plan and implementation strategy that had the ability to maintain both private and public support, both programmatic and financial.

The committee’s goal is to reposition Hatcher Road as a pedestrian friendly retail and commercial destination street. Read the revitalization plan.

Work continues to surge ahead. With $2 million secured for lighting and pedestrian improvements, the vision for this Phoenix collector street is coming closer to fruition. By the end of this year, it will be much more illuminated thanks to more than 40 new and improved street lights.

The committee continues with implementation through the development of an overlay plan that would add density to the street and provide shade, and pathways to encourage multimodal traffic.

The committee meets the 4th Friday of every month
8:00 A.M.
Cowden Center (9202 N 2nd St.)

Everyone is welcome to participate in these meetings. For more information, email Joel McCabe or call him at 602-870-6060 ext. 1257.
