Sunnyslope W.I.N.S. Community Forum

The primary purpose of the forum is to increase the capacity of Sunnyslope community members and facilitate networking, relationship building and information gathering opportunities as it relates to the revitalization and improvement of the physical, social and economic health of the community, and to making Sunnyslope a safer place for families & children.

Meetings are hosted by members of the Ambassador Work Group who share their experience and expertise in problem-solving community issues and provide peer support to forum participants.

Meetings are held as topics of interest arise.

A meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 14th to address current drug trends.

This 90 minute presentation is designed to educate parents and professionals about teen and adult drug use.  The most up to date information is shared on local and national trends, what drug use may look like, as well as how to recognize the paraphernalia and concealment of drugs.  Effective prevention strategies, such as delaying the onset of alcohol use in the teen years or monitoring medicine cabinets in the home are discussed.  The theme of the presentation is that drug use is not only an individual problem for the user/addict; it is a problem that effects the entire community.  The “bigger picture” of drug use and the impact on the community is identified, with the goal being to decrease use and fatalities (risk) through education and awareness.
