What is Weed & Seed

Operation Weed & Seed is foremost a strategy (rather than a grant program) that aims to prevent, control and reduce violent crime, drug abuse and gang activity in designated high-crime neighborhoods across the country. The strategy involves a two-pronged approach: law enforcement agencies and prosecutors cooperate in “weeding out” violent crime and drug abuse; and “seeding” brings human service and revitalization to the area.

Since August 2001, Sunnyslope has been an officially recognized Weed & Seed site. The boundaries are: between Cactus and Northern, from 19th Avenue to 16th Street.

As an officially recognized Weed & Seed site, Sunnyslope is eligible for federal funding through the Executive Office of Weed & Seed (EOWS) and the Office of Justice Programs (OJP). Funding may be solicited to strengthen this multi-agency approach.

Sunnyslope's official recognition as a Weed & Seed site expires in the spring of 2006.
