Trash/Recycling Collection Days to Change

Beginning the week of July 14, residential garbage and recycling collection days will change for nearly 275,000 Phoenix households. Hundreds of trucks will be re-routed as the city prepares to convert an existing facility into a new service center. In June and early July, residents will receive several mailings explaining the changes with the specific change for each household. Even in areas where there is no collection change, the time of day that trucks arrive may be different. Tune in to Phoenix Channel 11, watch for the June issue of Notes included in your city services bill or watch the May newsletter from solid waste services for details.

Saturdays Are Big Day in Sunnyslope

Bomberos Cafe and Wine Bar, 8801 N. Central Ave., suite 104, is named for the building it occupies which used to be a Sunnyslope fire station. Owners Oscar and Kristi Mastrantuono are working to deliver a cozy yet chic hangout and feature live music most Saturdays from 7-10 p.m. “I’m thrilled to offer a flavor of my heritage and fill a niche in the Valley for those in search of a lively local hangout,” says Oscar who grew up in Uruguay.

Bomberos has also added a DJ on Wednesday nights, starting at 8 p.m.

Grinders Coffee Company, 17 East Dunlap Avenue, owner Dennis Miller explains, “We’re doing our best to make Sunnyslope a cultural hub for the city of Phoenix.” The independent coffee house (that roasts their own!) has an art showing from 7 to 9 p.m. the 1st Saturday of each month, and often features live acoustic music along with an opportunity to meet the artists. The art remains on display for a month and is available for purchase. If you miss the first Saturday at Grinders, there’s always the 2nd, when from 7 to 10 p.m. guests can enjoy the fantastic sound of Pulsate Jazz and Hacksaw Blues, professional musicians.

First Wednesday Is Caregiver Support Group

All caregivers are welcome to attend the Caregiver Support Group on the first Wednesday of each month (except July and August). Meetings are held at the Cowden Center, 9202 N. 2nd Street, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.  Caregivers network with each other as they have the opportunity to interact with people who have similar life circumstances.  It is uplifting for the caregivers as they encourage each other. All caregivers are welcome.
